In 1837 Michigan became the Union’s 26th state. The
capital is Lansing.
Although Michigan’s nickname is the “Wolverine State”,
it seems that there are no longer wolverines living in the state.
Michigan is bordered by Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota, Wisconsin,
Ohio, Lake Erie, Lake Huron and Lake Michigan. The five largest
cities in the state are Detroit, Grand Rapids, Sterling Heights,
Flint and Warren.
Agriculture in Michigan includes dairy products, apples, blueberries,
cattle, vegetables, hogs and corn. Industry in the state includes
motor vehicles and parts, machinery, fabricated metal products, food
processing, chemical products, mining and tourism.
The state symbols are:
Flower is the apple blossom
Wildflower is the dwarf lake iris
Bird is the robin
Mammal is the white-tailed deer
Fish- trout
Tree is the white pine
Reptile is the painted turtle.

the drink he had stored in an oak case had acquired a delicious
gingery flavor.
